In a new revelation,  on the IPL spot fixing scam once again, singer Madhu Balakrishnan, who is also the brother-in-law of cricketer S. Sreesanth, on Thursday said that there was an attempt to murder the bowler during his spell in the Tihar jail.

"He went to jail for a crime which he (Sreeshanth) has not done and there were murder attempts against him in Tihar jail. A criminal who was a culprit in many murder cases always kept a sharpened weapon in his hands. One day he tried to stab Sreeshanth with this weapon, but he slipped and the criminal's finger got injured and Sreeshanth escaped"  Balarkishnan told in an interview to Kairali TV

The singer also added that the treatment the cricketer got in the jail was very bad.

"Someone even chopped off a person's head, who was opposite to Sreesanth's cell which has resulted in mental shock. Still Sree is not out of this mental trauma, but nobody realizes all this and troubles him through social media and other means."

Sreesanth was arrested in Mumbai in 2013 by the Delhi Police along with others for his alleged involvement in spot-fixing in IPL matches for payments of up to Rs 60 lakh for pre determining the various aspects that would manipulate the outcome of the match.

He was suspended by the BCCI and was booked under section 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC following which he was sent to the Tihar jail.

After spending 26 days behind bars, he was released on the night of June 11th 2013.

The player is currently in his home town of Kochi.
