Mystery shrouds the gun firing incident in which Telangana Congress leader Vikram Goud received grievous injuries to his shoulders and spinal cord.

The incident took place at Vikram’s residence in Hyderabad in the wee hours on Friday. Vikram’s wife Shipali Mulla told police that it was an attempt to murder. However, police are yet to ascertain if it was a murder or a suicide bid, according to The New Indian Express.

In a statement to Banjara Hills police, Shipali said that they were supposed to go for ‘anna danam’ (free food distribution) at a neighbouring dargah at 2:30 pm.

She narrated that she was upstairs with her children when the incident occurred. When she rushed to see her husband he was lying in a pool of blood. She adds that her husband had told her that it was a man who shot him.

However, a ground report by Tv9, contradicts her statement of going for the anna danam.

Tv9 crew visited Hakim Baba Dargah in Film Nagar, and in its report the dargah caretaker said that he had no knowledge about the anna danam.

He pointed out that for organizing such events, the dargah committee members have to be intimated to make necessary arrangements.

However, Tv9 noted that they could not confirm if it is the same dargah, which Vikram and his family were supposed to visit.

Vikram sustained injuries to his shoulders, stomach and spinal cord. He is being treated at Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills. Three bullets have been removed and doctors say that his condition is stable now.

Hyderabad police commissioner, M Mahender Reddy said that investigating officer, Venkanna examined the premises and collected scientific evidence. He said that they would do a scene reconstruction and would unravel the mystery behind this incident.

Police also recovered a crude pistol along with two empty shells from the spot, reported Srinivasa Rao from Hindustan Times. The report says that Hyderabad West Zone Deputy Commissioner of police A Venkateswar Rao visited the hospital with local police and inquired about the incident and also interacted with Vikram’s family members.

Police are examining CCTV footage of the building and surroundings to find out if the young Congress leader was shot by assailants or was it a suicide attempt.

They are also looking into the angle of whether Vikram had any family disputes.

Vikram Goud is the son of Mukesh Goud, who served as a Minister of Marketing under the YS Rajasekhara Reddy government.
