After having launched the sales of Moto G5 Plus smartphones in India about a fortnight back, Motorola has now confirmed that the lower end Moto G5 will be available from April 4 to Indians through the exclusive arrangement with online retail giant Amazon. If you have tuned in a bit late, Motorola’s new G series phones were revealed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in February and the 32GB and 64GB versions of Moto G 5 Plus. This was made available through Amazon at price points of Rs 14, 999 and Rs 16, 999 respectively. Now, though the company has not revealed the exact price at which the G5 will be sold in the country, market observers feel it will be in the region of Rs 10, 000.

Hardware specifications and features

Moto G 5 will be a 5-inch phone with a full HD display, something that has become the standard these days. It is slightly less than the G5 Plus which comes with a 5.2-inch display. In terms of the processor also, the company has chosen a Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core 430 processor (625 in G5 plus) and as far as the storage is concerned, it will be 16GB and with a 2GB RAM. The battery is also lower than the G5 Plus at 2,800 mAh (the G5 Plus runs on a 3,000 mAh battery). The market feels like it is because of these not-so-superior features that the phone may not cost beyond Rs 10,000. The G5 will sport a 13 MP rear and 5 MP front camera. There is also the LED flash for good measure. It is also expected that Lunar Grey and Fine Gold will be the colour variants of Moto G5 to be launched.

Will run on Android N

One thing worth looking forward to, is that the Moto G5 will come with the latest Android Nougat pre-installed. Motorola’s own user interface software will also be riding on the main OS. So in that sense, it won’t be pure-play Android out of the box, but that is not expected to affect the user experience in any manner. There is a fingerprint sensor integrated into the home button that should take care of the security and personalised access issues.

Actual performance yet to be tested

The actual performance review of Moto G5 will be known only after its official release on April 4, which will then be reviewed by experts. However, based on the company’s offerings and the hardware specs, it can be estimated that the phone will satisfy the Motorola fans proportionate to the category and the price point.
