Update: According to reports, investigators say that the woman had eloped with her boyfriend and created an elaborate kidnapping drama.

A mother and her son went missing in broad daylight from the Chittarikkal area of the Kasargod district of Kerala on Friday morning. Speaking to TNM, the Kasargod Superintendent of Police (SP), A Srinivas said that Meenu (23) and her son (3) were allegedly kidnapped by a group of people in a car around 10:30 am on Friday. Following the incident, the Chittarikkal police had arrived at the scene and have begun investigation.

“Meenu’s husband Manu has filed a case at the Chittarikkal police station regarding his missing wife and son and a police team lead by the Kanhangad Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), PK Sudhakaran has begun the investigation,” said the SP.

An official from the Chittarikkal police station told TNM that the police tried tracking the mobile number of Meenu. However, they managed to track her only until Kadumeni, an area in Kasargod district after which her phone is suspected to have been switched off.

A report by Asianet News says that Manu, who is a mechanic had gone to work in the morning and around 10 am, Meenu had called him saying that a group of people are trying to kidnap her. Manu reportedly said that before the conversation could end, Meenu who was crying had cut the call.

The incident was reported by the local residents who arrived at the spot on hearing the noises from the road.

On hearing about the incident, SP A Srinivas, DySP PK Sudhakaran, Vellarikundu Circle Inspector (CI), Sunil Kumar and Chittarikkal SI, Ranjith Raveendran arrived at the scene of crime.

It has also been reported that a dog squad and a team of forensic officials have reached the scene to take the investigations further.
