The shooting of the much-hyped Malayalam film Odiyan had begun in Banaras and Kashi recently with the team camped there. Tweeting a series of photographs from the shooting spots, director Shrikumar Menon revealed what it is like shooting the period flick based on the life of Odiyan Maanickan, the last surviving member of the Odiyan tribe.

Well-versed in black magic, Odiyan Maanickan has spent 15 years of his life in Banaras and Kashi before returning to the Thenkurrisi village.

In his tweet regarding this, the director said that art director Prashanth Madhav will be creating the Thenkurrisi village in Palakkad where the shooting would begin after the current schedule is wrapped up.

His tweet in this regard read: “Odiyan set work begins in Palakkad. Prasanth Madhav is going to create thenkurissi village which goes through 3 eras.”

Mohanlal, impressed with the storyline of this film, decided to get on board despite knowing well that he needed to do a lot of homework. He will be appearing in different avatars in this flick as he is touted to play the character that travels from 35 years to 60 years. Incidentally, he had lost about 15 kilos of weight to get into the skin of the role he is playing apart from appearing cleanly shaven.

Odiyan will be high on action and to take care of the stunt sequences, the director has roped in the Hollywood stunt director Peter Hein. Speaking about Mohanlal’s role in the film, he had said in an interview earlier:

“Pulimurugan was a man vs wild subject where Mohanlal sir played a hunter who used to hunt down tigers. But Odiyan is different. Here, he has to transform into various animals and that is quite a challenging task.”
