Actor Anushka Sharma lashed out against “powerless, misogynistic men” as she opened up about online abuse that she has been facing regarding her high-profile relationship with cricketer Virat Kohli.

The actress reportedly received social media messages about her on and off relationship with the cricketer when she decided to put her foot down.

“I think it’s misogynistic, powerless men who have no other way to put you down, whose egos are hurt because you are a successful working woman with your own money and independence,” she told AFP.

The actress also talked about the challenges she faced while dealing with the incessant hate and trolling she was subjected to on social media.

“It's one thing to be abused for a film I did or to be trolled if I did something wrong. But to be abused for something I had no association with? That was hurtful," she said.

The 28-year-old actress said added that she had been trolled much more than her peers and while initially she didn’t know how to react, she has now learnt to not care.

Earlier this year, Kohli had made an earnest plea to his fans to stop having a go at Anushka for his performance on the cricket pitch.

“If anything she has only motivated and given me more positivity. This was long time coming. Shame on these people that hide and take a dig. And i dont need any respect for this post. Have some compassion and respect her,” said the star cricketer in an Instagram post.

Anushka will be seen next to Salman Khan in their upcoming film “Sultan”.
