It’s raining views for Vijay’s Mersal teaser which has become the fastest Indian film to clock over 20 million views in just five days. Released last week, the teaser gave audiences a glimpse of Vijay in three diverse avatars. In the teaser, Vijay smashing the goons up promises some adrenaline-pumping fight sequences and a couple of dance moves make it a full-on entertainer.

The 75-second teaser is definitely well packed with all the elements that Vijay’s fans expected. Directed by Atlee, a former associate of Shankar, the film is said to be made on a lavish budget of over Rs. 100 crore and it is gearing up for a grand release this Diwali.

In Mersal, Vijay will be seen playing a panchayat head, a doctor and a magician. To play the role of the magician, he was tutored by three popular magicians who helped him learn some magic tricks. According to well-known magician Gogo Requiem, the magic portion in Mersal will be astonishing. The film, which also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nithya Menen, marks the second collaboration of Atlee and Vijay. Produced by Sri Thenandal Studios, the film has music by AR Rahman and also stars SJ Suryah in a key role.

On Friday, the Madras High Court issued an interim stay on using the film title Mersal in any form of advertising or publicity till October 3. The court passed orders after producer A Rajendran of AR Film Factory had registered a case, claiming he has already registered the titled Mersal Aayiten in 2015 and had even started shooting a film under the title. The industry grapevine is that the makers of Mersal are contemplating about changing the title to Aalaporan Tamizhan; however, there’s no official confirmation yet.
