The woman was rushed to the Government Medical College where she succumbed to the severe burns at 8.30 pm on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Khadeeja, 45, from Malappuram, The Hindu reported. The incident took place at 4.30 am, half-an-hour before the train’s scheduled departure, inside the 13th compartment of the Kannur-Alapuzha Express which was stationed in the Kannur station. The railway police said that an unidentified man had poured liquour on the woman and set her on fire. Police officials have recovered a liquour bottle from the compartment and said that some people had heard some loud arguments between a lady and a man from that compartment. The lights in the train were not switched on and hence people could not identify the assaulter.
