Mahesh Babu's 25th film ‘Maharshi’ has got the biggest opening in his career. Directed by Vamsi Paidapally, best known for directing films like Oopiri and Yevadu, the film has shattered every possible record at the box office and has turned out to be the biggest opener of this year. The film talks about the struggles faced by farmers and it follows the same trajectory as Mahesh Babu's previous films Srimathudu and Bharat Ane Nenu.

Mahesh Babu celebrated the success with the entire team at his house in Hyderabad. Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna also joined the celebration. Mahesh Babu's wife Namrata Shirodkar took to Instagram and shared a couple of photos from the party with the caption, "Celebrating #maharshi.”

Since the film has had a solo release and there is no competition, trade analysts predict that it could beat the record collection of Mahesh Babu's last outing Bharat Ane Nenu and become a top grosser in his career. It has already joined the Rs 50 crore club as the opening day worldwide collection is believed to be around Rs 59 crore though an official confirmation is awaited.

The film marks the first-time collaboration of Mahesh Babu with Vamsi Paidapally.  The film also stars Pooja Hegde, Allari Naresh, Jagapathi Babu and Vennela Kishore. Maharishi is bankrolled jointly by Dil Raju, Ashwini Dutt and PVP. It is a high budget project with a major portion of it being shot in the United States. The film has music by Devi Sri Prasad while KU Mohanan is cranking the camera.

It may be mentioned that the film initially ran into trouble following a legal suit filed by PVP Cinemas alleging that their intellectual property rights were violated. This issue has been amicably settled between the parties – Dil Raju, Ashwini Dutt and PVP Cinemas – through an out of court settlement. Later, PVP Cinemas joined to co-produce the film.
