Few days ago, Dhanush, producer of the Rajinikanth starrer Kaala had announced that the film would hit the marquee on April 27th. Earlier, the slot was earmarked for Rajinikanth’s other upcoming film 2.0.  However, it was taken over by Kaala with the post production of 2.0 getting delayed.

It is well known Rajinikanth’s movie gets a massive opening and has always enjoyed the ‘sole film release’ status with all other releases being put off for want of theatres or patronage. With the entire film industry waiting for the Kaala and 2.0 team to come up with an announcement on the release dates, it is now clear that Kaala has taken over the April 27 slot.

On this, industry pundit, G Dhananjayan had tweeted: “When the King #kaalaa arrives on 27th April, others have no chance to stand. Though we announced first our film #MrChandramouli releasing on 27th April, now we will rework the date with Team & announce. Best wishes @dhanushkraja sir @beemji sir & Team to rock (sic).”

He also went on to add that a huge film like Kaala is the need of the hour to revive the gloomy situation and the box office. On this, he tweeted: “Met 3 popular theatre chain owners at the wedding reception. They reported 25 to 30% drop in footfalls in the last 2 to 3 months & stated several show cancellations for new films released. Very challenging situation. We need a huge film like #Kaala to bring back audience.”

But two Tollywood films – the Mahesh Babu starrer Bharath Ane Nenu and Allu Arjun’s Naa Peru Surya – will clash with Kaala head-on, we hear. Both these films have announced its release date few weeks ago and have no plans to change it.

Kaala, a gangster film that is being directed Pa Ranjith, has Rajnikanth in the title role with Huma Qureshi, Nana Patekar, Anjali Patil, Sukanya, Easwari Rao and Samuthirakani in important roles. Santhosh Narayanan is the music director of this film with Ruben editing it.
