Two former Congress MLAs from Kerala, who lost in this year’s assembly elections, have gone back to their original careers.

Former Kannur MLA AP Abdullakutty, after his failure from Thalassery constituency in this elections, has started practicing as a lawyer in Kannur First Class Magistrate court. He had passed his LLB in 1999.

Abdullakutty had never practiced as a lawyer before as he was elected as CPI(M)’s Lok Sabha member in same year of his enrolment as a lawyer.

He was an active CPI(M) worker, who later joined the Congress and represented Kannur constituency in the state assembly.

In this elections, he contested from Thalassery, where he was defeated by Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) leader AN Shamseer.

The former MLA has started practicing under senior advocate Narayanan. The first case he appeared for, was an accident victim on Wednesday.

Another politician who returned to law practice is former Congress MLA of Aranmula constituency, K Sivadasan Nair.

Nair was defeated by prominent journalist Veena George in the assembly elections.

Unlike Abdullakutty, Nair was a famous lawyer 10 years ago. Nair was district Congress committee president before winning the previous assembly election in 2011.

Nair has joined his old office, where he and his professional partner Philipose Thomas had worked earlier. Philipose Thomas had later joined CPI(M) when the partners were involved in a dispute. However, Nair has now gone back to the same office where Thomas also practices.

Nair has told media that he will still be active in politics.
