The News Minute| June 26, 2014| 11:05 am IST The Left in Kerala has demanded that CM Oommen Chandy reinstate the Principal of Cotton Hill High School,Thiruvananthpuram. The Principal, Urmila Devi, had been transferred to another school in the state for having 'questioned a Minister'. Cotton Hill High School is the largest government school in the country. Left leader Pinariyi Vijayan has termed the move to transfer the Principal complete foolishness. The Principal has also approached the Kerala Administrative Tribunal and it is expected to hear her plea. During the assembly session yesterday , the Education Minister Abdu Rabb was asked by a legislator why the principal was transferred to another school without any reason. The Minister answered that it was because she treated him with “arrogance”. The Minister made this comment in the state assembly. After the comment was made the Opposition broke out in protest alleging that the comment was provocative. Left’s legislator V Sivankutty raised the question in the assembly. Abdu Rabb’s reply was that during a visit to the school, the principal treated him with “too much self-importance and arrogance”. He further added that according to him a model institution should not be headed by such a person and hence he decided to take action. The opposition and sources in the school say that the minister had reached late for an event, which had made the principal upset. Abdu Rabb also said that the initial suggestion he received was to suspend her but he decided to transfer her under “humanitarian grounds”. The Opposition halted the proceeding of the assembly immediately, forcing the speaker to call it a day.
