On January 8th, the district collector of Kozhikode district, Prashanth Nair, a man with 1.6 lakh likes on Facebook, put out a status asking for people to help in cleaning water bodies.
Prashanth Nair, also fondly called ‘Collector Bro’ said in his Facebook post that those interested in cleaning water bodies can get government money sanctioned for hiring a water pump. He added that those who were ready to help would also get some famous Kozhikode biriyani.
“Will buy you biriyani”, he said.Whether it was respect for ‘Collector Bro’ or their love for Kozhikode chicken biriyani, around 750 people cleaned the Pisharikavu lake in Koyilandy on Republic Day.
“Cleaning up a 57,000 square meter water body is not a small deal,” the collector said.
And keeping his part of the bargain, heaps of biriyani was cooked near the lake and distributed to volunteers.
Some even posed for selfies with the collector.
'Collector Bro' has been credited with many social welfare schemes that involve the public and government including ‘Operation Sulaimani’ to ensure food for the needy.
