HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fitness challenge by saying that he was more concerned about the fitness of Karnataka than of his own.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday for the ‘Fitness Challenge’.

“I am delighted to nominate the following for the #FitnessChallenge:

Karnataka’s CM Shri @hd_kumaraswamy.

India’s pride and among the highest medal winners for India in the 2018 CWG, @manikabatra_TT.

The entire fraternity of brave IPS officers, especially those above 40.”

HD Kumaraswamy, within minutes of getting nominated, responded by thanking the Prime Minister for his concern for his health. He also added that yoga and using the treadmill are already a part of his daily routine.

“Dear @narendramodi ji
I am honoured& thankU very much for d concern about my health
I believe physical fitness is imptnt for all&support d cause. Yoga-treadmill r part of my daily workout regime.
Yet, I am more concerned about devlpment fitness of my state&seek ur support for it."

‘Fitness challenge’ is the latest social media trend in which well-known personalities challenge others to adopt in some form of physical exercise in an intention to spread awareness about a healthy and more fit lifestyle.

Earlier on June 13, Modi tweeted that he walks on a track “inspired by the Panchatatvas”.

“Here are moments from my morning exercises. Apart from Yoga, I walk on a track inspired by the Panchtatvas or 5 elements of nature - Prithvi, Jal, Agni, Vayu, Aakash. This is extremely refreshing and rejuvenating. I also practice breathing exercises. #HumFitTohIndiaFit”

It all began when the Union Minister for sports, Olympian Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore challenged the Captain of the Indian Men’s cricket team Virat Kohli as a part of the fitness challenge.

Kohli then accepted Rathore’s challenged and nominated Prime Minister Modi.

PM Modi responded to Virat Kohli's challenge and tweeted using the hashtag #HumFitTohIndiaFit.

This sparked outrage among the twitterati since the Prime Minister had not expressed a comment on the Thoothukudi protest and the shooting that happened on the 100th day of the protest.

Following a fractured verdict in the Karnataka Assembly Elections, Kumaraswamy was sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka on May 23, after his JD(S) allying with the Congress. His return to the CM’s chair, however, came days after BJP’s BS Yeddyurappa was forced to step down as the Chief Minister after a two-day tenure. The BJP did not have enough number in the House to form the government, making way for the JD(S)-Congress combine.
