When seven-year-old mountaineer Samanyu Pothuraju from Hyderabad, tweeted out to KT Rama Rao, Telangana Minister for IT, expressing his wish to meet the minister, little did he expect to get a reply. Let alone, the minister taking time off his schedule to meet the little one on Wednesday.

The young mountaineer had recently scaled the 5,895 meters tall Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania - the highest peak in the African continent.

Samanyu tweeted to KRT on June 23, saying, “Hi sir, I am Master Samanyu Pothuraju, aged 7 years, from Hyderabad. I made my state and country proud by scaling Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. I have now started preparing to make one more world record by scaling Mt Kosciuszko, Australia. Want to meet you once. Thank you.”

The minister replied the same day in a tweet saying, "Sure buddy. Would love to meet and talk to you soon.” The meeting arranged by the minister’s office took place at Pragathi Bhavan.

“The minister spent a good amount of time with the young mountaineer and appreciated him for conquering Mt Kilimanjaro,” KTR’s office said in a press release, shortly after the meet.

Mount Kosciuszko at a height of 2,228 meters is the tallest mountain in Australia. The youngster had earlier conquered the Everest Base Camp and will also be climbing the 5,642 meter tall Mount Elbrus in Russia towards the end of July. This makes Samanya easily the youngest mountaineer from Telangana.

On the same day, the minister also met a young upcoming table tennis player from the city.

Sreeja Skula, a table tennis champion from the state is the first player to win the ‘Youth Girl’ title at National Ranking Table Tennis championship held at Panchkula in Haryana. The minister her at the Camp Office and congratulated her on the achievement.
