The News Minute | February 17, 2015 | 3.38 pm ISTA rationalist organization in Kerala has carried out its own version of “ghar vapsi” as a means of protest against conversions into Hinduism carried out by right-wing Hindu groups. With the idea of promoting the ideal of “freeing oneself from religion and returning to humanity”, the Kerala Yukthivadi Sangam initiated five people into a rationalist outlook towards life, during an event conducted at Thodupuzha, Idukki district.“We cannot force anybody to adopt an ideology, so what we did was not a conversion but a protest against the activities of extremist groups” said KYS leader Mohammed Khan. The organization maintains that becoming a human being is the original ghar vapsi and religion doesn’t have any place in the life of a human being.“Religion is the first enemy of man. We should realize this. Returning to humanity is the real ghar vapsi,” Khan said.KYS has also said that they are planning such protests against ghar vapsi in different districts of Kerala. In the last two days, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had conducted ghar vapsi programmes in different districts of southern Kerala where nearly 60 people converted to Hinduism.Tweet
