Days after a police officer was suspended for allegedly assaulting a helmetless driver in Kollam, the officer has denied the allegations through a Facebook post.

In his Facebook post on Tuesday, the officer said that he has been receiving calls from near and dear ones expressing their horror on learning about the incident, but, “he was not naïve enough to have hit somebody only to collect the fine that will eventually go to the state treasury”.

Mash Das was suspended just hours after the incident occurred on Friday. He allegedly hit 32-year-old Santhosh with his wireless set, after which, Santhosh was admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Kerala police also filed a case against the officer for voluntarily causing hurt.

“I wouldn’t receive any special accolades for nabbing a helmetless rider who was travelling with a kid. Nor will I receive a share of the Rs.100 fine that he is entitled to pay,” he wrote.

He adds that policemen will continue to work despite allegations and attacks directed at them.

Though he does not deny the allegations in as many words, he writes that truth will someday come to light.

“I will not say what the truth is. It will one day come to light. Newspapers, television channels, human rights commission and the police complaint authority can go in search of the truth until then,” he wrote.

Mash Das also said that he kept his daughter’s photograph on his bike’s speedometer so that he is cautious and avoid speeding. He thanked his friends who supported him.
