A staff of the Kerala Assembly canteen has been allegedly beaten up by MLA PC George.

Manu, a staff of the Assembly canteen filed a complaint with the Legislative Secretary against the MLA in this regard. The MLA allegedly assaulted him for the delay in bring him lunch. However, the MLA denied the allegation.

"He brought lunch to my room 40 minutes after I made the order. I scolded him for that, but didn’t beat him. Nobody would believe this allegation," George told reporters.

The staff, a native of Vattiyurkkav in Thiruvananthapuram, has been admitted at the General Hospital there.

The Budget session of Kerala assembly is currently in progress.

George is the lone independent member of the Kerala Assembly representing Poonjar constituency in Kottayam.

Ever since his win in the 1980 state elections, George has been working in Poonjar which also doubles up as his home turf. Ahead of the 2011 elections, George - who was earlier with the LDF- merged his party with the Kerala Congress (M) and then later integrated with the UDF. He then set off on his own, and is currently the only independent MLA in Kerala.

Just last week, he had floated a social outfit to ‘ensure justice for minorities and the marginalised.’

The senior politician, who has been representing the Poonjar constituency in Kottayam for decades, announced 'Janapaksham', which he calls a people’s movement, at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram on February 21.
