A 33-year-old woman died while undergoing infertility treatment at a hospital in Mysore on Friday. While doctors of the fertility hospital maintain that Pushpa suffered a cardiac arrest, her family has alleged medical negligence as the cause of her untimely death.

Pushpa and her husband Srinivas, a bank employee, are reportedly residents of Mahadevapura. With no children after three years of marriage, the couple found their way to Mediwave IVF & Fertility Hospital on Sayyaji Rao Road two months ago.

The Times of India reports that Pushpa was admitted to the hospital on Friday and underwent laparoscopic treatment to remove fibroids in the uterus. Nearly three hours after she was shifted to the ward, Pushpa’s pulse reportedly plunged, following which, she lost her consciousness.

Though Pushpa was shifted to Columbia Asia hospital, she breathed her last at the hospital.

Another report in The New Indian Express, however, states that Pushpa was rushed to the operation theatre for laparoscopic surgery after she developed complications on administering an injection. She was then declared dead.

Aggrieved family members protested in front of the fertility hospital and later went ahead to file a police complaint with the Mandi police.

“We are waiting for the postmortem report. If the report confirms the woman died due to doctors' negligence, action will be initiated against the hospital,” NR sub-division ACP Umesh G Shet was quoted as saying.
