The Karnataka police arrested a 35-year-old man from Holalkere in Chitradurga, after he killed his mother and reportedly performed religious rituals with her head.

The Times of India reports that Thimmappa severed his 65-year-old mother Savithramma’s head late on Tuesday night.

Thimmappa, who was arrested the same night, has been sent to judicial custody.

The report states that Thimmappa used to often get into arguments with his mother. He was living with his mother, after separating from his wife ten years ago. A villager told TOI that though Thimmappa’s siblings live in the same village, they would never visit him.

On Tuesday night, Thimmappa proceeded to severe his mother's head, when an argument broke out between the two while Savithramma was serving him dinner. He is then reported to have carried her head around the house and performed religious rituals.

The neighbours, who grew suspicious, soon alerted the police. When the police arrived, Thimmappa reportedly refused to open the door.

“When cops told him to open the door, Thimmappa refused saying he had killed his mother on God's call in his dream the previous night, and that he would surrender only the next morning (on Wednesday). The cops broke open the door and arrested him,“ Chitradurga SP Arun Rangarajan told TOI.
