A night out with friends went horribly wrong for this 32-year-old Kannada actor when her two friends allegedly sexually assaulted her in Bengaluru.
Shilpa* was out with two of her friends, Sachin and Praveen on Sunday. At around 7.30 pm, Praveen, who was driving the car, stopped near Hegganahalli.
“The two men then got out. Curious as to why her friends were getting out of the car without reason, the actor got out as well. It was a deserted road and that’s when the two men tried to molest her,” the Rajagopal Nagar Police told TNM.
According to the actor’s complaint, the two men held her hand and began pushing her into the car’s back seat.
“She has said that she fought them off and ran away. Once she reached the safety of a busy main road, she hailed a cab and got to the police station to file a complaint,” the police added.
Shilpa has alleged that since the past two years, she had been receiving phone calls from an unknown number.
“The caller would speak to her in lewd language and also send her text messages that amounts to sexual harassment. She did not know that it was her two friends who were sending her these messages until Sunday night, when they allegedly told her about it,” the police said.
The police said that Shilpa had warned her caller sternly multiple times. She assumed that the harassment would stop and hence did not report it.
However, Sunday’s incident shook her, which led her to take action immediately.
Praveen and Sachin are still at large. The Rajagopal Nagar police have filed an FIR under section 354 against the duo.
