Director Kamal will have two Hindi songs included in his upcoming film Aami, which is a biopic of poet Kamala Surayya aka Madhvi Kutty. Both the songs have been penned by Gulzar, the Oscar winning lyricist and Taufiq Qureshi, brother of Ustad Zakir Hussain, will be composing the tunes for the songs.

It may be mentioned here that Kamal was in talks with Bollywood actress Vidya Balan to essay the lead role in the movie but she refused for undisclosed reasons. Following this, Manju Warrier agreed to join the team and the shooting is progressing in Punnayoorkulam in Kerala. In fact, the shooting of the film commenced at the Kamala Suraiyya Memorial in Punnayoorkulam a few weeks earlier. Apart from the two Hindi songs, Aami will also have songs composed by M Jayachandran for which Rafeeq Ahmed has penned the lyrics.

On including two Hindi songs in a Malayalam film, Kamal had said in an interview to the Times of India that, “Yes, we have finished recording both of these Hindi songs. The songs are melodies, and one of them will be sung by Javed Ali. The movie has a few sequences set in North India, for instance, in Kolkata where the writer grew up. I can't reveal more about the reasons of their inclusion at the moment.”

Earlier, Manju Warrier had posted on Facebook about her role stating, “Madhavikutty blossomed somewhere between reality and imagination. It is not easy to get into that soul. Let Kamal sir, an extraordinary talent whom I see as my teacher, guide me. I could realise this moment her enchanting smell. Fingers that made letters dance touch my head gently. I bow my head and become Aami with prayers.”

With some big names like Gulzar and Taufiq being associated with Aami, the expectations just got bigger!
