Telangana has proposed a unique scheme of installing water ATMs in Hyderabad, wherein pedestrians could get a litre of chilled water for just Re 1.

The proposal was mooted by Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) managing director B Janardhan Reddy during a review meeting on Monday.

Citizens of Hyderabad have expressed happiness at the new proposal of the Telangana government.

Abhiram Pyla, 24-year-old IT professional told The News Minute, “I am really impressed with ATM water scheme of the state government. It would be better if the government also looks at improving drinking water to the slums and households along with providing  basic sanitation facilities. I would really appreciate if the government will continue it in the long run.”

Chilled mineral water will be available at the kiosks, in automated teller machines(ATMs). The water board authorities directed officials to work on installing water ATMs in the city.

Self-help groups will provide assistance in creating awareness among people on conservation of water and for monitoring delivery of free tankers.

A water board official said, “They have not announced it but they have just proposed the plan. It is mainly for the pedestrians who don’t have water to drink. This idea was proposed by the Managing Director, HMWS&SB and GHMC commissioner.”
