The News Minute| October 25, 2014| 7.00 pm ISTNovember 1st- A date which had a special place in the hearts of the people of Andhra Pradesh may go unmarked this year as the Chandrababu Naidu government has decided to change the AP formation day from November 1st to June 8th. The state of AP was formed on November 1 in 1956. This June 2nd saw the state split into two and while Telangana wishes to mark June 2nd as its formation day, the AP government does not share the same view. “Naidu is of the view that there is no point in continuing with the celebrations as November 1 marked the merger of then Telangana of erstwhile Hyderabad State with Andhra State, which has become a separate State now,” New Indian Express reported. The TDP government wishes to declare June 8 as the Formation Day as it was on that day that the government headed by Chandrababu Naidu took over after the state was under the president’s rule for a few days. Some others argue that AP should observe October 1st as the formation day, as Andhra Pradesh separated from the Madras Presidency in 1953 on that day.The AP government is all set to make an announcement in the coming week.
