On Friday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it has nominated Nita Ambani as a candidate for election to its membership.

With this, the founder-chairperson of Reliance Foundation becomes the third Indian and the first Indian woman ever to be nominated as an independent candidate.

According to an IANS report, Ambani can already be considered a member as the actual election for membership is just a formality.  She can now serve as a member of the IOC until 70 years of age.

Although, most celebrities reacted positively to the appointment, on Twitter there was a fair amount of apparent disappointment on display.

The likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Sania Mirza and Sachin Tendulkar all tweeted congratulating Ambani soon after the announcement.

Couldn't have nominated a better individual to represent India as a Member of the @iocmedia

Proud of you Nita Ambani.

And then there were the brickbats:

Mukesh: Nomination k baad Sabse pehla kaam kya karegi ? Nita : Sachin ka account login krungi.
