More than a month after Jisha was raped and murdered in her home, newly appointed Kerala DGP Loknath Behera on Sunday said the case would be solved as soon as possible.

He was speaking to reporters after visiting Jisha’s house in Perumbavoor on Sunday and is reported to have said that ‘solving crime is no magic’ and that the investigation would be carried out in a scientific way.

When Behera took charge last week after TP Senkumar’s controversial removal from the post, Behera had assured the people of nabbing the culprit, with his track record of solving every case he has taken up in his career.

However, on Sunday, Behera had something else to say. “I cannot say when the case would be solved. Sometimes it may take just 24 hours to prove the case, sometimes it may take years.”

The investigation is being led by ADGP B Sandhya. 30-year-old Jisha was found raped and murdered at her residence in Perumbavoor on April 28.

Mathrubhumi reported on Saturday that the police took 22-year-old Rajneesh, a native of Rajasthan, into custody from Varadiyath in Avanoor panchayat. Locals had nabbed Rajneesh, who bore a resemblance to the suspect’s sketch released by the police. According to reports, he had come to Varadiyath two weeks ago for doing tile work.
