Jagan holds massive BC meeting in Andhra, announces sops for community

The BCs are a key demographic as the state heads to the polls and Jagan made sure that he announced sops for each sub-caste under the BC category.

Leader of Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Sunday announced a ‘BC Declaration’ at a mega public meeting titled ‘BC Garjana’ in Eluru.

The YSRCP said that the meeting at Helapuri City, close to CRR Engineering College, was attended by several lakh people belonging to the BC community from all 13 districts of the state.

“BCs comprise 52% of the state’s population. Over the last 5 years, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu promised them a lot, but hardly did anything tangible for them. Jagan convened a study committee under the chairmanship of YSRCP State BC Cell President Janga Krishnamurthy to further understand these grievances. Based on the findings, Jagan prepared a set of solutions to address the problems being faced by the community. BC Declaration, thus, is a set of solutions to alleviate the situation and further the welfare of the community,” the YSRCP said in a press release.

Speaking at the event, Jagan said that BC stood for ‘Backbone Class’ and said that as soon as the YSRCP came to power, the party would introduce the ‘BC Sub-Plan Act’ and make it a law in the first session of the Assembly itself.

“We will constitute special corporations for all 139 BC castes. Moreover, we will allocate Rs 15,000 crore every year for the welfare of the BC community. Every woman above the age of 45 will get 75,000 rupees as a direct benefit as part of the ‘YSR Chaiyutha’,” Jagan said.

Lashing out at Naidu, he added, “The CM announced a BC Declaration before the 2014 elections. He promised free education from KG to PG, allocation of special budget of Rs 10,000 crore every year, introducing BC sub-plan and providing them legal protection. But over the last 5 years not a single promise has been fulfilled.”

The BCs are a key demographic as the state heads to simultaneous Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, as they comprise roughly 52% of the population. At the Eluru event, Jagan made sure that he announced sops for each sub-caste under the BC category.

“50% of jobs will be given to SC, ST and BCs and law will be implemented. ID card will be issued to small businesspersons, apart from giving Rs.10,000 loan whenever they need. A grant of Rs.10,000 will be given for Nayee Brahmin (barber) shops. Sanchara Caste to be given houses, jobs and admission in Gurukul Schools. Fisherman community will be given Rs.10,000, and if there’s any accidental death, the family will receive Rs.10 lakh. Houses with handlooms will be given Rs 2,000 apart from the benefits of ‘Navaratnalu’. Every Yadav will get Rs.6,000 for loss of cow or calf,” Jagan said.

R Krishnaiah, National President, BC Welfare Association, was also present at the event and addressed the gathering, asking people to vote for Jagan.

“I urge you not to fall prey to sentiments, money, pressure and emotions. Trust Jagan and vote for him because he, like his father, will never fail to deliver on his promises. TDP did not invite me to their BC meeting because they know they cannot fulfil our demands. But Jagan invited me to put forward our demands and promised to certainly fulfil them,” he said.
