A newly released government report says that Chennai and Bangalore have increasing number of suicides, while there trend is declining in many other parts of the country.

The report by the National Crime Records Bureau titled "Accident Deaths and Suicides in India 2013",states that the number of overall suicides have fallen to 1,34, 799 from 1,35,445 in 2012.

Chennai and Bangalore had topped the list in 2012. In 2013 too, these two cities have reported maximum number of suicide cases with Chennai having reported 2450 and Bangalore 2033 cases respectively. Other cities like Mumbai and Delhi had much lesser numbers.

Overall, cities across India accounted for 35.5% of the total suicides in the country. Among states Maharashtra had the highest number of suicides in 2013, followed by Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka.

Housewives and farmers account for a big number in the suicides reported across the nation.
