BJP MP Tarun Vijay’s endeavour to promote and Tamil and Thirukkural in northern states of India received another boost when he organized the “Thirukkural in Parliament” on December 17 and representatives of all major parties came together to participate in the event.

“Thiruvalluvar has united all parties and ideological groups in an unprecedented way,” says Tarun Vijay, “Truly, the Tamil saint poet is doing wonders.”

MPs from almost all major parties were present at the event. CPI's D Raja, CPM's TK Rangarajan, Samajwadi Party's Prof Ram Gopal Yadav, DMK's Kanimozhi, RSS top brass Datta Hosbale, Dr Krishna Gopal , BJP leaders and Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Smriti Irani, Congress MP and Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha Prof PJ Kurien, BSP's Ch. Munavar Saleem , JD(U)'s Harivansh and TRS leader Keshav Rao attended the event.

The event was to honour students and top literary figures from Tamilnadu, including national award winner poet Vairamuthu, Sahitya Akademi award winner novelist Jo d' Cruz, Dinamani Editor Vaidiyanathan and Kundrakudi Ponnambala Adigalar.

Speaking at the event, HRD Minister Smriti Irani said that Thirukkural would soon find a place in the UNESCO library as its Director General Irina Bokov had requested that the ancient Indian text be made available to them. “I had replied that the Thirukkural will be sent to showcase Indian literary genius,” said the Minister, according to TNIE.
