The Gachibowli Traffic Police in Hyderabad on Tuesday detained two vehicles which had more than 100 pending challans against them for violating several traffic rules. The Cyberabad Police, under whose jurisdiction the vehicles were stopped, said that their penalty amounts ran into several thousand rupees.
The police said that both vehicles were stopped near the city’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) as part of a regular check.
A Mahindra Xylo (TS 07 UA 9202), with a yellow number plate, seemingly a cab, registered under the name of Simhendar Rao had a staggering 120 cases, which included more than 100 cases of ‘wrong or unauthorized parking’ especially at the entrance of the ORR and at various points along the ring road, besides a few fines for over speeding and crossing the stop line. The police said that the vehicle owner has to pay Rs 19,930 in fines.
Meanwhile, another car, with registration number TS 32 T 2444, had 102 challans pending against it, mostly under the jurisdiction of the Gachibowli Police Station. The bulk of challans here as well, were related to wrong parking in the carriageway of the ORR. The vehicle owner in this case, owes Rs 16,565 in fines.
Several cars can be seen at the entrance of the ORR at Gachibowli aiming to ferry passengers to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) for a quick buck. However, many of them park their vehicles at the entrance of the ORR, in violation of the rules.
“Both cars had over 100 pending challans when they were stopped as part of our usual checks. Our inspectors immediately seized the vehicles and sent them to the traffic police station. The vehicles will be handed over to the owner only after they pay their dues. If pending challans are not cleared by the vehicle owners, charge sheet will be submitted in court and the court may imprison the persons,” K Ramulu, traffic inspector, Gachibowli, was quoted as saying.
