In a tragic incident, a 6-year-old boy was killed on Friday when he was hit by the van of his own school, while he was entering the school premises. The incident occurred at Jeedimetla.

Jashwanth Reddy, a UKG student of Vignan Sudha Talent School, died immediately. The boy’s father dropped him at the school gate on Friday at around 8.30 am. The boy was walking towards his school when the school van (AP 28TA 3437) came from behind and hit him.

“Driver Srisailam did not notice the child walking and the front left part of the van hit him, causing a severe head injury. The school staff rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead,” said Jeedimetla inspector.

The boy’s family members have blamed the school for the incident. “If they were careful about the movement of the school van inside the campus, my son would have been alive,” said Ramreddy, the boy’s father.

The accused driver Srisailam reportedly has a valid heavy vehicle driver’s licence besides all other required documents.

Officials of the education department have initiated an enquiry into the incident. “We are probing whether it was negligence on part of the school management,” an official said.

A case of accidental death has been registered against the driver.
