A cab driver who allegedly tried to rape an air-hostess in Hyderabad in the wee hours of Tuesday was arrested by the police in Gandipet on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sunpreet Singh said the woman, who works with a private airline, had gone out of her home at about 2 am to buy something when the cab driver approached and offered to ferry her wherever she wanted to go.

However, he took her to an isolated place and allegedly tried to rape her. As she resisted, he assaulted her, causing injuries.

He also snatched her mobile phone and drove off leaving her on the spot.

Police rushed there after getting information and rescued her.

The Times of India reported:

After committing the offence, the culprit, Mirza Ahmed Baig alias Imran, 25, a resident of Darga Kaliz Khan, first went to Hayatnagar and nearby areas before reaching Gandipet, where his sister stays. While he was in Gandipet, he came to know that police had taken some of his family members, including his mother, into custody.

The police meanwhile, formed five special teams to track the accused. 

"The special teams were sent to Hayathnagar, Towlichoki and Gandipet. Later the accused was caught at Gandipet and his vehicle was seized and the woman's phone was recovered. The accused was caught within 24 hours," a press release by the police stated/
