The Hyderabad police on Saturday arrested a man after he created a ruckus outside his wife's house, allegedly in an inebriated condition. The police rushed to the spot after receiving a call from the woman's family and took the accused, identified as Sai Kiran, into custody.

The police said that 23-year-old Sai had separated from his wife and was presently being investigated over an ongoing case of dowry harassment.

"He fell in love with the woman, who was a minor then, and married her two years ago. However, they were separated a year later. She has been staying with her parents since then. Last year, his wife had filed a dowry harassment complaint and he was arrested by the Moinabad police," Rajendranagar Inspector G Suresh was quoted as saying.

The police also said that he had been harassing her since then, even though they had attended counselling sessions organised by the authorities.

On Saturday, while the police initially said that he had arrived outside his wife's house with a sickle, they later said that he was not carrying a weapon.

“He parked his bike in front of her residence and started hurling abuses at her, asking her to come back to him. If she did not, he threatened that he would kill her. The woman's family immediately called the police. A police patrol rushed to her residence in time and took Sai Kiran into custody,” Inspector Suresh added.

A video of the police nabbing Sai Kiran was widely shared on social media.

A case has been registered under IPC section 506 (Criminal Intimidation) and 448 (trespassing) and further investigation is underway.

"Regarding Rajendra nagar PS issue, which is widely viral on social media is not totally true. There was some family related problem between couple. That individual who was brought to Police station is counseled and he did not have knife in his hand. He is now in custody of police. Further details will be given by Inspector Rajendranagar (sic)," a message from Telangana DGP Mahender Reddy's office stated.
