In a brutal murder that came to light on Wednesday, the Rajendranagar police in Hyderabad arrested three persons for killing an Ola cab driver after posing as passengers, to steal his car.

The accused were identified as car driver Sk Hafeez, fabrication worker Mohammed Tanveer and auto driver Mohammed Jahangir.

The deceased, also named Mohammed Jahangir, was a resident of Rajendra Nagar and was working with Ola cabs.

In a press release, the police said that the accused hatched the plan on April 20 and decided to make a quick buck by stealing a car and selling its parts.

Accordingly, they booked an Ola cab from Miyapur, to go to Patancheru.

“After reaching Patancheru, they convinced the cab driver to take them to Zaheerabad. Their intention was to find an isolated spot to kill the cab driver,” Rajendranagar ACP P Ashok told reporters

The police said that they even offered to pay the driver extra money in cash, for making the journey out of Hyderabad. They also allegedly purchased and consumed liquor during the journey, following which they smashed an empty bottle on the driver's head.

Following this, the accused pulled the driver out of the car, parked the vehicle in an isolated spot and took the victim into some bushes nearby where they threw boulders on his head and killed him, according to the police.

However, things didn't do according to plan, as the accused met with an accident on their way back to Hyderabad.

“Hafiz was driving the vehicle in a drunken condition resulting in the crash. They then abandoned the vehicle. The body was recovered from the bushes in Zaheerabad and the stolen car from Jogipet,”  Rajendranagar Inspector G Suresh was quoted as saying.

While the incident took place on April 20, it came to light only after the accused feared that they would be caught and decided to surrender themselves.

The accused were produced before a magistrate and sent to judicial custody.
