Telangana's Adilabad reportedly broke a 10-year record on Sunday, as temperatures in some places of the district soared to a sweltering 42 degree Celsius.
According to reports, Adilabad's earlier record for the highest temperature in the last decade, stood at 40.6 degree Celsius.
Many parts of north Telangana continued to witness high temperatures of around 40 degree Celsius this week.
Even Hyderabad hit the 40 degrees mark earlier this week.
“There are no weather systems that can bring relief from the heat. We expect temperatures to rise but not exceed 41 degree Celsius. The dry weather is due to lack of winds carrying moisture,” Mahesh Palawat, Chief Meteorologist at Skymet, told The Hindu.
The IMD had earlier predicted that Hyderabad would easily reach 45 degree Celsius, even going higher during May, while places in Andhra like Vijayawada may witness temperatures as high as 49 degree Celsius.
However, it stated that temperatures would remain below 50 degree Celsius.
The IMD has been noticing a 0.1 degree Celsius overall increase in temperature every 10 years.
It attributes this change to man-made reasons like global warming and climate change.
It had also said that Telangana is liable to see high temperatures as it is an inland, rocky state situated in the Deccan Plateau, and receives winds from central India.
Meanwhile, other reports suggest that the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir, in Telangana's Nalgonda district, has come down to dead storage level.
This comes two weeks after the Telangana government’s request to maintain a water level of 510 feet in the Nagarjuna Sagar dam was reportedly turned down by the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB).
The full capacity of the reservoir is 590 feet.
There are two major dams on the Krishna River that lie on the border - the Srisailam dam which is upstream and the Nagarjuna Sagar dam which is downstream.
While Telangana has alleged that Andhra was resorting to diversion of a huge quantity of water from the Pothireddypadu head, Andhra objected to "illegal projects" like Palamuru-Ranga Reddy and Dindi being taken up by Telangana.
