Tisca Chopra and Naseeruddin Shah starrer The Hungry won the Special Jury Mention under the Oxfam Best Film on Gender Equality Award 2017 at the closing night of the MAMI festival.

The film had its Asian Premiere at the Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival. It has been generating tremendous amount of excitement among the audience, being appreciated and receiving rave reviews abroad ever since it was premiered for the first time at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Actor Tisca Chopra who plays the lead in the film says, “MAMI and Oxfam India's Best Film on Gender Equality Award is very prestigious and I'm really glad that our film has won the Special Mention. I think it’s about time that there were more women in films and we keep pushing the boundaries when it comes to making content driven cinema.

Director Bornila Chatterjee says, “I’m overwhelmed with the response our film garnered at the MAMI festival and now after winning the Special Mention, we as a team feel encouraged and proud. The character of Tamora who is a villain in Shakespeare’s Titus was someone who I was very naturally inclined towards and we really wanted to tell her story through a modern Indian context with The Hungry.”

The Hungry stars Naseeruddin Shah, Tisca Chopra, Neeraj Kabi, Arjun Gupta, Sayani, Antonio Aakeel and Suraj Sharma in lead roles.

It follows Tulsi Joshi, a widow and bride-to-be who goes to her own wedding seeking revenge for the brutal murder of her first born son. Based on Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, The Hungry is about the violence that exists between power and love - a macabre fairytale set in the elite circles of north India.

The film is written and directed by Bornila Chatterjee and co-written and produced by Tanaji Dasgupta and Kurban Kassan.

The Hungry is a Cinestaan Film Company and Film London's co-production. Cinestaan Film Company is a boutique film studio which develops, produces, sells and distributes films across the world. C International Sales, its Sales Agency has represented critically acclaimed films like A Death in the Gunj and Hotel Salvation (Mukti Bhawan) internationally.
