Google has just revealed how much it paid Sanmay Ved, a former Google employee, who shot to fame last October after he owned the company's domain name for a full minute after he bought it for $12 due to a stroke of luck.

The amount Google paid him was $6,006.13, which is 'Google' spelled with numbers, the company announced in a blog post.

Sanmay Ved, asked for the money to be given away to charity to the Art of Living foundation run by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

Upon learning this, the company doubled its reward.

The incident reportedly occurred after the company forgot to renew its domain ownership.

Google runs a reward programme that pays out to people who identify vulnerabilities in its online services, with amounts ranging from $100 to $20,000 and the man was paid by the company for identifying the 'glitch'.

"I don't care about the money. It was never about the money. I also want to set an example that it's people who want to find bugs that it's not always about the money," Ved told Business Insider.
