JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy plans to stage a dharna in front of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s house, if justice is not delivered to the Dalit woman who was allegedly called “prostitute” by police personnel.

The Dalit woman Savitha had gone to the CM’s house on May 17 to seek his help in getting title deeds for her house as her neighbours had already got it.

Sunitha, who is a resident of RPC Layout in Vijayanagar, said that she was hoping the chief minister would help her as the city in-charge minister KJ George and housing minister Ambareesh, whom she had approached, had turned a deaf ear, reported The Times of India.

She was allegedly asked to wait for long and when she threatened to consume poison, she was sent to a remand home, reported The Hindu.

Kumaraswamy said that a criminal case should be lodged against some police personnel for allegedly abusing a woman.

“Is this how you treat a Dalit woman who comes to your doorstep seeking help?” he asked.

However City Police Commissioner N S Megharikh, refuted the allegations. “Savitha turned up in front of the Chief Minister’s house at 8 pm and threatened she would consume poison if she did not get title deeds to her house. That is why we arrested her and sent her to the shelter. No one abused or harassed her and we have video evidence of this. We definitely did not accuse her of prostitution,”he said.

On Tuesday, Sunita said: “When we came back we were told that the CM will be available at 5 pm and were ordered to wait outside. While other well-dressed people were being allowed entry, we just sat on the pavement and waited. When we checked at 6 pm the personnel told us that the CM will not see people after 6 pm. I told my husband to take the children home as they were hungry and I decided to wait for the CM to accept my representation.”

She was chased away from the entrance and was taken to High Grounds police station in a Hoysala jeep.

“The cops abused me and threatened me. They accused me of being a prostitute and took me to a remand home for women on Hosur Road and left me there,“ she alleged and added: “They released me the next day after my husband and kids came searching for me.“
