Global healthcare insurance and healthcare services provider Anthem, with annual revenues of over $90 billion will be setting up operations in Telangana’s capital city Hyderabad.

This is part of the state's larger focus on healthcare. Healthcare has been a major sector of focus for the Telangana government. As per a statement from KTR’s office, on the Innovation front, T-Hub has HealthTech as one of its seven thrust areas and recently partnered with Australian MedTech entrepreneurs for cross border growth with Govt of Victoria providing a grant of AUS$ 80,000. T-Hub also partnered with many global players to localize products for the Indian market.

Founded in the 1940s, Anthem is headquartered in Indianapolis, US. The company has announced a major presence in Hyderabad with 250,000 square feet of SEZ space. The proposed facility will employ about 2,000 employees.

“I congratulate Anthem for choosing Hyderabad for setting up their operations. Hyderabad, being a leader in Healthcare and IT sectors and home to several marquee companies, will continue attracting more global players in various sectors,” IT and Industries minister KT Rama Rao said in a statement.

As per reports, Anthem chose Hyderabad for its India operations thanks to its human resources, the state government’s policy on issuing permissions, innovative policies such skill development and training and the developments in the IT and ITeS sectors.

Anthem is the second large healthcare provider to look to Hyderabad after United Healthcare Group (UHG), one of the world’s largest companies in the healthcare services sector, has its biggest Indian presence in Hyderabad. UHG has expanded significantly over the last four years consuming over 830,000 square feet in the city.

This announcement also comes days after global semiconductors maker Micron Technology, with a market cap of $51 billion announced that it will setting up a presence in Hyderabad with an investment of over Rs 300 crore and will lease about 1.8 lakh square feet in an SEZ facility in Madhapur area of Hyderabad. Micron aims to create employment for more than 1,000 engineering and IT professionals over the next few years.
