German teenager tells DCW she was raped by a Delhi auto driver and molested by his friends

A 19 year-old German national, in an e-mail complaint to the Delhi Commission for Women has stated that she was raped and assaulted by an auto driver in the capital on the 14th of December 2015.

The Commission received an email from the victim on 5th February 2016 informing them of the incident.

The victim told the Commission that she had walked out of her hotel room at night and got lost in the alleyways and asked for directions from an auto driver. Instead of dropping her safely to her hotel room, the auto driver assaulted and raped her in the dark. The German has written that she somehow managed to get away and ran into another street when the auto driver found her again, this time with a group of men. They all ran towards her, and started molesting her when she bit the tongue of one of them. This according to her made all the men run away as they were scared that people would rush to the area hearing the bitten man’s screams.

The teenager also said in her complaint that another young man who found her wandering dropped her back at her hotel. The victim was too scared to go to the police because she was in a foreign land, very young and not sure of what to do.

The victim deposed before the Commission on 19th of February. After counseling, an FIR was lodged and medical examination facilitated by police. But it seems the police was initially reluctant to file the FIR and DCW Chairperson, Swati Maliwal has issued a notice to the DCP (Central) for non-filling of an FIR. Subsequently, on receipt of the notice, the FIR was filed on night of 24th Feb 2016 in PS Prasad Nagar.
