The title logo of the biopic of the late chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Rajashekar Reddy, Yatra, has been unveiled and has fetched a good response from film buffs.

The poster comes with the line: “He wanted to leave a footprint in history instead, he left one in the hearts of the people."

The tagline of Yatra goes on to read in Telugu: “Kadapa Dathi Prathi Gadapaloki Vastunnanu...Meetho Kalisi Nadavalanundi...Mee Gunde Chappudu Vinalanundi.”

Several big stars including Nagarjuna and Mammootty were approached to essay the lead role. Finally, Mammootty consented to essay the role of former Chief Minister late YS Rajasekhar Reddy upon hearing the narration given by the young filmmaker.

Ever since he gave his nod to be a part of this project, expectations have soared high. Mammootty shared the YSR biopic film poster on social media.

Wielding the megaphone for this venture will be Mahi V Raghav and it will be bankrolled by 70 MM Entertainments’ Vijay Chilla and Sashi Devreddy. The shooting of this film is scheduled to begin on April 9, with Mammootty joining the sets.

YS Rajashekar Reddy was the CM of united Andhra Pradesh for two terms. He won the 2004 Assembly elections and was sworn in as 14th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and he served full-term. He won the 2009 Assembly elections and continued his tenure as 15th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. However, his second term was cut short by his untimely death on 2 September 2009 in a helicopter crash.

Known for his pada yatra which eventually led to his victory in the Assembly elections, his biopic has been titled Yatra. Mammootty will be starring in a straight Telugu film after 25 years, his last  being Swathi Kiranam, which was directed by K Vishwanath in 1992. Reports say that he is impressed with the script while Mahi V Raghav, the film’s director felt that he would be the apt choice to play YSR in the biopic.
