A fireball was reportedly seen streaking across the skies through many districts of Kerala on Friday night. The incident was reported around 10.30 pm and many people told various media houses that the fireball was seen streaking across the sky, while some claimed that it was followed by a loud bang. Some people have also reported that they felt a minor earthquake.

The fireball was noticed by people in some districts in Central Kerala including Ernakulam. Minister Adoor Prakash told the media that police teams had been dispatched to places where the sightings were reported from.

The minister also said that it could have been a comet, while some reports say it was probably a meteor.

A scientist who spoke to Manorama news said that since the fireball was sighted in many places almost simultaneously, it could have been space debris.

A few days ago, fireball sightings were reported from Western America. Reacting to this, NASA had said that it was a piece of space junk re-entering the space and the fireball was actually ‘a rocket body used to launch the Yaogan Weixing-26, a Chinese satellite launched in December 2014.'
