Hyderabad police have registered a case against self-proclaimed spiritual guru and founder of Art of Living foundation, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, for his provocative remarks on the Babri Masjid issue.

The case has been registered in Saidabad police station under IPC Section 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), following a complaint by a social activist Syed Fayazuddin.

Speaking to TNM, Fayazuddin said that the remarks made by Ravi Shankar were extremely outrageous, which intimidated the Muslim community and also provoked the Hindu community to indulge in violence against the minorities. “I am glad that the police has taken action against him,” he said.

Though the complaint was filed on Thursday, police sought legal opinion and then filed the case on Friday.

Ravi Shankar recently in a TV interview to a channel remarked, “Any delay in resolving the Ram temple issue could result in a Syria-like situation in India and the courts have to respect the majority opinion.”

Several people have slammed Ravi Shankar for his outrageous comments. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said that Ravi Shankar should be arrested for making such provocative remarks and for undermining the Supreme Court.

Speaking to TOI he said, "This is nothing but threatening us. When the matter is sub-judice, with what motive is Sri Sri Ravi Shankar making those statements? He has committed contempt of court by speaking about a matter that is pending in the Supreme Court."

Even Shiv Sena party’s mouthpiece Saamna in its editorial slammed him and said, “Such controversial statements from a spiritual leader isn't advisable. What kind of art of living is this? Is Art of Living all about killing people or threatening them?”

It also said that the NIA should investigate if he is receiving funds to make such statements.

Slamming Ravi Shankar and asking him to stay away from the Babri Masjid issue, it said, “In our country, people from any field are poking their nose in important national issues.”
