The News Minute | December 14, 2014 | 4:15 pm IST When Rajinikanth (no description required) joined Twitter in May, the users of the macro blogging site lost their wits. Twitter verified his account within minutes of joining and @superstarrajini had already broken records with number of followers turning from thousands to lakhs. The account was trending on Twitter for quite a while and witnessed the return of the Rajinikanth one liners, with lines like “Twitter will now follow Rajinikanth” and “Twitter got its website verified today by Rajinikanth” The first tweet by the actor had a video attached to it where he said “I am happy to connect with my fans through social media starting with Twitter.” Salutation to the Lord. Vaṇakkam aṉaivarukkum !! A big thank you to all my fans. Excited on this digital journey http://t.co/79ea6MrDe3 — Rajinikanth (@superstarrajini) May 5, 2014 However, the PR guys that were responsible for managing the account seemed to have forgotten all about it with the account just dropping dead after two tweets promoting the film “Kochadaiiyan” which had just released. The entire hype died as quickly as it had come and the account just went silent after that. Fans might have hoped for Rajinikanth to maintain a more active social presence on the lines of Amitabh Bachchan or even Tamil Nadu's own screenwriter turned politician DMK chief M Karunanidhi. However, Rajinikanth's twitter account remained as elusive as the man himself after the initial mercurial craze. The account was brought back to life on his birthday, near the end of 2014 to thank all his fans and some personalities like PM Narendra Modi and actor Amitabh Bachchan for the wishes on December 12, the same date as his next film “Lingaa” released. Nevertheless, the whole situation has definitely proved a point. Rajnikanth was, still is and always will be close to the hearts of all his fans. In conclusion, easiest 1.15 Million followers on twitter ever made! Tweet
