In a shocking incident in Hyderabad, during a drunken driving check, a brawl broke out between the traffic police and a drunk man, which ended with three cops roughing up the man.

The incident took place at around 11.30 pm at Jubilee Hills. The drunk man was identified as Ankit, a resident of Miyapur.

On Friday night, the traffic police, who were conducting the drunken driving check, stopped a car coming from Jubilee Hills checkpost. They soon realised the driver, Deepesh, was in an inebriated condition, drunk beyond the permissible limits.

The police started registering a complaint against him and tried seizing his car, when an infuriated Ankit got out and attacked the constable, Jitendra.

Provoked by his behaviour, the constable retaliated and soon two of his colleagues joined in thrashing him.

Ankit was roughed up by three personnel before the inspector intervened. The brawl was caught on camera.

“He threatened the traffic constable, telling him not to film the incident, but the constable continued. Enraged, he attacked the constable,” said Banjara Hills Station House Officer, N Vidya Sagar.

The traffic police filed a case against Deepesh for driving under the influence of alcohol. His car was seized.

A case under section 353 of the Indian Penal Code (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) was filed against Ankit.

On Friday, the Jubilee Hills police conducted drunk driving checks at six locations in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills.

In a similar incident, two years ago, a drunk man manhandled a constable when they tried detaining him for crashing into a car when he was driving in an inebriated condition.
