The News Minute| October 23, 2014| 9.20 pm ISTThe republic day parade is one of the most watched events on television. Every republic day,  entire households gather around television and tunes in to Doordarshan to commemorate the fact that our country became a proud republic on 26th January, 1950 and celebrate the diversity of the ethnicity that India consists of through the parade on Rajpath road. But the newly formed state of Telangana may not be so excited about the day as the “Hopes of Telangana state to showcase its cultural heritage at the first Republic Day parade in 2015 after the state's formation have been dashed with the ministry of defence (MoD) rejecting its proposal for a tableau themed on celebration of Bonalu festival” writes Times of India. The Telangana state was not even officially informed as to the cause or reason of their rejection. Meanwhile, the AP government has succeeded in being invited for the selection committee meeting convened on October 28 with their topic of the harvest festival of “Sankaranti”. The Centre’s committee approval of the themes is mandatory for the States to be able to display the tableaus. The committee consists of experts from arts, history and culture. KCR had written to Arun Jaitley last week highlighting how important it was for the new state to showcase its culture and heritage on the national stage. "This is the first time our Telangana state is presenting the cultural tableau reflecting the cultural heritage of Telangana. I, therefore, request you to kindly permit us to present our cultural heritage along with other states," Rao said. But it seems Rao's request has been rejected.
