Ennu Ninte Moideen fame director RS Vimal is all set to direct a film titled Mahavir Karna featuring Vikram in the lead role. Recently, the director was at the Sabarimala shrine with the script of his upcoming venture to seek the blessings of lord Ayappan.

The director has supposedly done a lot of research on this project and had reportedly said that he had to write the script eight times in order to perfect it.

The shooting of this magnum opus is scheduled to begin in October this year at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad where huge sets have been erected for the purpose.

The team also has plans to shoot important sequences in Jaipur and Canada. According to the director, Mahavir Karna will be released in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi and will be dubbed in 32 languages. It may be mentioned here that director RS Vimal was initially in talks with Prithviraj Sukumaran to play the lead role in Karna but the star eventually backed out for reasons best known to him. Further, the producer who was to bankroll the venture also backed out.

According to latest reports, Mahavir Karna will be made on a whopping budget of Rs. 300 crores and it will be bankrolled by the New York based production house United Film Kingdom. The director also has plans to rope in the best technicians from Hollywood and Bollywood for this project.

Speaking about this film to Manorama Online much earlier, RS Vimal had said, “Mahavir Karna is a movie with an international appeal, with Mahabharata as the central theme. In fact, the story of Mahabharata is presented through Karnan. This movie has absolutely no connection with Kerala. Karnan was supposed to be a small project in Malayalam, but the new one will be entirely different.”
