Actor Dileep is likely to be named as the first accused in the actor assault case by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case, as per a report in The Times of India.
The SIT is considering this step in the supplementary charge sheet to be filed.
The actor who is out on bail is the 11th accused in the case while Pulsar Suni is the prime accused.
Rural SP AV George told ToI, "Pulsar Suni had no prior grudges against the survivor. The ultimate gain obviously goes to the one who conspired and hired him to commit the heinous crime. Hence it is possible to name him (Dileep) as first accused.”
The SIT is scheduled to meet on Thursday to take a final decision on the matter, as per a report in Manorama.
The report further states that there is little likelihood of recovering the mobile phone in which the crime was filmed.
After a review meeting between senior officials and legal experts, the supplementary charge sheet is expected to be submitted at the Angamaly Magistrate court next week, as per a Mathrubhumi report.
"A crime doesn't happen on its own. Someone will gain from it. If a person is planning a crime and instigates someone else to commit the crime for his benefit, then the responsibility falls on the person who is benefiting from the crime," according to an SIT official.
The main charges against Dileep include: conspiracy, role in gang rape, kidnap, destruction of evidence and protection of the accused.
The preliminary charge sheet was filed by the SIT in April against Pulsar Suni and six accomplices.
