National award winning actor Dhanush made his directorial debut with the Tamil flick Pa Paandi which went on to become a major hit. The film’s commercial success paved way for its remake rights in other languages to be sold for a huge price. While Raj Kiran played the lead role in the movie, Dhanush made a cameo appearance.

And now we hear that Dhanush’s next directorial will be a period flick set in the pre-Independence era. The film’s official pooja happened recently and all other details are being kept under wraps. Reports are that the director has not revealed the entire script to even those closely associated with the project. To be titled yet, the film will be bankrolled by Sri Thenandal Films.

On the star cast, it will have Dhanush playing the lead role with the Telugu star Akkineni Nagarjuna in a pivotal role. Nag is not new to the Tamil film industry having acted in a few Tamil films including the hit film Thozha in which he shared screen space with Karthi. Like Thozha, Dhanush directorial will also be a bilingual made in Tamil and Telugu.

Besides Nagarjuna and Dhanush, the film will also have Sarath Kumar, SJ Surya, Srikanth and Aditi Rao Hydari in pivotal roles.

In an interview to the Times of India, Nagarjuna had reportedly told, “It’s a period drama and this role is extra special to me because I’ve attempted something I’ve never done before. I play a character who goes 600 years back in time. It’s an interesting role.”

Dhanush’s Pa Paandi is currently being remade in Kannada under the title Ambi Ning Vayasaayitho. The film has Ambareesh reprising Raj Kiran’s role with Sudeep playing the role played by Dhanush.
