Dhanush’s 'Maari 2' will be a Telugu-Tamil bilingual

The project is tipped to go on the floors from last week of October or early November.

Last seen in the sequel to his 2014 blockbuster VIP, actor Dhanush will soon start shooting for Maari 2, which will reunite him with director Balaji Mohan. The project is tipped to go on the floors from last week of October or early November.

On Thursday, Balaji announced that the film will be made as a bilingual, which means it will be simultaneously shot in Tamil and Telugu. While Kajal Aggarwal played the leading lady in the first part, she won’t be a part of the sequel. On Thursday evening, the makers will announce the heroine of the film. However, actors Robo Shankar and Vinod, who played Dhanush’s sidekicks, will be part of the sequel.

The project was supposed to materialise much earlier but due to Dhanush’s multiple commitments, including his directorial project Power Paandi, Maari 2 had to be pushed. In the film, Dhanush played a dhoti-clad, moustache-twirling local rowdy and he will return in the same getup for the sequel, which will be bankrolled by Wunderbar Films. Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas, who has worked in films such as Oru Mexican Aparatha and Godha and recently in Dhanush’s maiden Malayalam production Tharanga, has been roped in to play the baddie in Maari 2.

One of the big highlights of Maari was its music by Anirudh Ravichander. Following their fall out, Dhanush and Anirudh parted and the former teamed up with Sean Roldan for Power Paandi and VIP 2. It’d be interesting to know if Sean will be retained for Maari 2 or will Dhanush bury the hatchet and go back to Anirudh.
